GCAAR Cares, the community service organization of the Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS® (GCAAR), recently donated $3,000 each to the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County and the Community Preservation and Development Corporation in Washington, DC.
These donations continue the work of GCAAR Cares, which in the past two years has worked with area charities by offering to take an active role in community service projects, as well as provide financial support. GCAAR Cares has worked with such groups as Rebuilding Together of Montgomery County and Washington, DC, the Montgomery Housing Partnership, and Habitat for Humanity.
The Community Preservation and Development Corporation (CPDC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to acquiring and developing affordable rental housing in areas with higher prices. Within the communities they develop, CPDC collaborates with residents and partners to establish place-based community development programs.
The donation made to the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County was used to support their Family Self-Sufficiency Program, a federally mandated program to assist families in public housing and Section 8 programs to achieve self-sufficiency and end dependence on welfare assistance. The program currently assists 441 families, primarily composed of single female households with one or two children.
