Endorses Kathy Patterson for DC Council Chairman
On July 18, 2006, the Washington DC Association of REALTORS® (WDCAR) officially announced its endorsement of Kathy Patterson for DC Council Chairman. As a member of the DC Council, Kathy Patterson (Ward 3) has illustrated a continued committed to affordable housing and a path to homeownership for all District residents. She has been a strong and consistent advocate of fiscal responsibility, which includes reducing government spending and rolling back the recent increase in recordation and transfer taxes.
In June 2004 she voted for rolling back the recordation and transfer taxes from 1.5% to 1.1%. She was also the lone vote against (12-1) diverting $7 million in recordation and transfer taxes away from affordable housing initiatives in the 2007 budget.
"Under Kathy Patterson's leadership, the DC Council will continue to nurture the economic growth of the city for the betterment of the hundreds of thousands of home and business owners in the city," said Committee Chairman Dale Mattison. "WDCAR is pleased to give her its endorsement."
WDCAR has also supported Ward 7 Councilmember Vincent Gray. In his two short years on the Council he has shown tremendous leadership in bringing accountability to the School Modernization legislation and other measures. WDCAR particularly appreciates Councilmember Gray's keen interest in affordable housing and looks forward to working closely with him on his pledge to roll back recordation and transfer taxes and other affordable housing initiatives.
The Washington DC Association of REALTORS® is comprised of almost 3,000 professionals who help residents find homes, and business owners find office and retail space in the District. The Association's members are on the front line of promoting ownership in the District to residents, potential residents, and business owners who are considering investing in the District.
