On July 18, 2006, the Washington DC Association of REALTORS® (WDCAR) officially announced its endorsement of Linda Cropp for Mayor of Washington DC. As Council Chair, Cropp led the District out of the dark days of the federally imposed Control Board. In May 2006, she authored the exemption for homes less than $400,000 from recordation and transfer tax increases. She also fought for $5 million in workforce housing monies in the 2007 budget.
Cropp illustrated her commitment to home ownership for residents by following through with a promise to roll back the recordation and transfer taxes from 1.5% to 1.1% in June 2004. She has also been an advocate of developing air rights above DC public buildings, such as libraries, to create more economic development and more affordable housing.
"Linda Cropp has been an advocate for affordable housing and a path to home ownership for all District residents," said Committee Chairman Dale Mattison. "We are impressed by her experience and leadership and are proud to offer our endorsement in her campaign for Mayor of Washington DC."
WDCAR looks forward to working with Councilmember Fenty in the future, both in Ward 4 and in efforts District-wide. We hope he will continue his message of fiscal responsibility through greater District government efficiency and no new taxes.
WDCAR would also like to take this opportunity to thank Councilmember Orange for his campaign message of economic development that benefits all District residents. His instrumental redevelopment efforts in Ward 5 have not gone unnoticed.
The Washington DC Association of REALTORS® is comprised of almost 3,000 professionals who help residents find homes, and business owners find office and retail space in the District. The Association's members are on the front line of promoting ownership in the District to residents, potential residents, and business owners who are considering investing in the District.
