The GCAAR Legal Hotline is an exclusive, members-only benefit that provides GCAAR members with legal information for all your real estate-related questions!

How to submit a legal question

Simply complete the form below with your question and as much detail as possible and press the “Submit” button. Within two business days, an attorney from our Legal Department will call you in response to your question. Please make sure that your phone number is accurate when you complete the form. GCAAR’s Legal Department will not answer any questions by email.

Things to know before you submit the form below

When submitting your question, please provide as much detail as possible to allow our Legal Department to research the issue, if necessary, and to provide a complete response to your inquiry.

Do not include the name of any parties to the transaction, any other REALTORS® involved in the transaction, or any brokerages involved in the transaction.

By submitting a question to the Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS® (“GCAAR”) Legal Hotline, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the purpose, operation and limitations of the hotline, and I agree to the following:

The legal hotline is a service that is available exclusively to GCAAR members. The legal hotline is intended to provide answers to questions you may face in your business, and to keep GCAAR members informed about legal developments, trends and issues relating to the real estate industry. The legal hotline is available to provide real-estate agents who are GCAAR members with legal information, not legal representation. Nothing in GCAAR’s marketing materials or legal hotline communications should be taken as legal advice for any individual case or situation.

The GCAAR Legal Hotline is not intended to: 

  • provide you with legal advice or legal opinions; or 
  • represent you, your brokerage or your client(s) or customer(s) in any proceeding or transaction. 

If you need information about a legal or substantive issue that could affect a transaction, or if you, your brokerage or your client(s) or customer(s) are seeking to defend an ethical or regulatory complaint or lawsuit, you should first consult with your broker and, if necessary, an attorney retained by you or your brokerage. You should encourage your client(s) and customer(s) to seek competent legal counsel, when appropriate.
